A well-known name in the field of Awadhi folk music, a
graded artist of All India Radio & Dept. of
lnformation,U.P. and empanelled artist in the Dept. of
Culture of the Government of Uttar Pradesh,
Vandana Mishra hardly needs any introduction.
Vandana started her career as an Anchor in All India
Radio and soon became a recognized sweet voice
intelligently enriching programs by her clever,
intelligent remarks. Gradually she focused on
singing with a view to preserving and reviving the
Traditional Awadhi Folk Songs, which are the
backbone of the cultural ethos of Uttar Pradesh.
Needless to say, this art form has suffered for various
reasons a relative decline as compared to other
forms of singing.
Initially, Vandana took it as a hobby but when she
entered in this field she soon realized that this art form
needs our serious attention, help and support and
started cultivating it so much that it became a passion
for her. Her unique talent as a popular folk singer
came up in her distinctive stage performances and
brought her several honors and awards from
connoisseurs of music. She also contributed to
some folk singing training workshops.
